I wouldn't normally wish that on anyone but if smoking had made my skin more pale, I would have kept doing it too in all fairness. As it's a bit of a hellish existence to balance your days around keeping your skin from burning up. IPL made my skin worse so I am glad it is helping yours. So tough to tackle, this beast but I hope the IPL results will be long lasting for you or require only some maintenance treatments.

best of luck! :)Scarlet Nathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07109388039163423418noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6015332149890513796.post-18614484111433747442015-04-23T11:37:00.985-07:002015-04-23T11:37:00.985-07:00Finished my 4 sessions of IPL last Thursday and I ...Finished my 4 sessions of IPL last Thursday and I must say my skin is much better. In fact if you didn't know I had skin problems and saw me at the moment you probably wouldn't know. My skin is pretty much back to its normal colour. Although I am still a bit hot around the eyelids!! The problem is how long will this last?? We shall see. One thing for sure if it does start coming back I will seriously consider going back on the smokes!! I'd rather take my chances if it brought my skin back to normal (as it was when I smoked) than got around with a flushed hot red face for ever!! I sincerely hope you manage to sort yours out too because it really is such a pain. Best of luck to you. PS if I ever do go back smoking I will let you know what happens. :-) Ex-smoker ..... for the momentnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6015332149890513796.post-81741840820365459962015-04-21T12:17:57.019-07:002015-04-21T12:17:57.019-07:00Thanks for that ex-smoker. But I'd ber very interested to hear from you if starting to smoke again might help your rosacea. I still wonder about that question in general, as smoking is supposed to be such a blood vessel constricting thing. All the smokers I know have pale or even yellow skin. Which is still better than red skin in my book!Sorry you had to go through this stressful event. I am hoping you will improve soon.
Best wishes SNScarlet Nathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07109388039163423418noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6015332149890513796.post-80853785847442073702015-04-21T11:36:51.518-07:002015-04-21T11:36:51.518-07:00I quit smoking after 30 years or more in Jan 2013....I quit smoking after 30 years or more in Jan 2013.
After about a year off smoking I started to notice the skin on my forehead and cheeks get progressively worse and this in turn stressed me out.
I went to my doctor and he said it was Seborrheic dermatitis.
I had a small touch of this for years on and off, but it was always easily contained.
I then started to get hot flushes and couldn’t stand to be in a hot room and found even drinking alcohol made me feel hot.
After about 3 months of trying various creams and potions with nothing clearing it up, the stress of it all eventually caused me to have an anxiety attack which I had to go on medication to get over!!
I then went to a dermatologist who said I had rosacea.
So basically I went from a 49 year old smoker with no health issues to an anxiety ridden rosacea faced wreck!
I didn’t initially put quitting smoking and my rosacea and anxiety together until I began to search the internet.
I’m now convinced that quitting smoking caused my rosacea and that my rosacea caused my stress which brought on my anxiety.
If I knew then what I know now I can say with 100% certainty that I wouldn’t have quit smoking.
I currently undergoing IPL treatment to see if that can sort my skin out and if that doesn’t work I’ll seriously consider starting smoking again as life is just torture with this damn affliction.
I would love to know if anyone has quit smoking, developed rosacea, started smoking again and had the rosacea clear up?Ex smoker ..... for the moment!noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6015332149890513796.post-43362446471102280332014-12-06T15:01:30.340-08:002014-12-06T15:01:30.340-08:00Hi,

I have no kids to have to stick around for so if I can find something to make my rosacea less severe and painful and perhaps also shorten my life, I probably would use it, unless it gives the most horrendous suffering at the end. But I'm not really sure smoking possesses those qualities. Just a few cigarettes made me more red at least. Not paler. But there is conflicting information on this for sure, and some people have a reduction in their redness. Try and error I'm afraid, as is usually the case here unfortunately. Although, I am more of a quality over quantity type of person...

Anyway, thanks again for your response. It made me definitely more red and flushed and burned up, not to mention very nauseous. Not worth it for me... also don't want to get lung cancer if I can avoid it ;)
I also heard from several people that stopping their smoking habit started their rosacea so I fear that the chemical constriction and then dilation of the blood vessels from smoking might not be great to aim for either. There are less toxic methods to constrict your facial blood vessels, like medication...

Hope this helps, best wishes :)Scarlet Nathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07109388039163423418noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6015332149890513796.post-39862405035240273382014-11-23T05:52:29.382-08:002014-11-23T05:52:29.382-08:00Hi, been looking very deeply into this but not muc...Hi, been looking very deeply into this but not much closer to finding the answer... Y...Wow, thank you for sharing your experience here. Your story seems to confirm what some other writers that I quoted went through as well... I´m a bit intrigued. It might be that for you the blood vessel constriction that smoking causes helps you to have a flawless skin perhaps? I wonder, if starting to smoke could actually potentially help those with existing rosacea.. Silly question but may I ask what brand of cigarettes you smoke? Just in case of me starting a new trial perhaps. Who knows the brand/filter etc have something to do with it as well...

Thanks for your post!Scarlet Nathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07109388039163423418noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6015332149890513796.post-4017458291256391162013-09-18T06:31:42.951-07:002013-09-18T06:31:42.951-07:00Hiya, just wanna add my experience on this, am 42 ...Hiya, just wanna add my experience on this, am 42 & have had flawless, & I mean totally flawless, skin for 20 years. Been a smoker since early 20's (10 a day so not heavy), gave up smoking using NRT Jan 2013, about 1 month in started having skin problems & by week 16 had full blown P&P rosacea on face scalp neck & shoulders, ocular rosacea so severe I could barely see, was experiencing major P&P flare ups from products I've been using for years & foods I've been eating for years when I'd never experienced allergic reactions previously, literaly couldn't let sunlight near my skin, it was a living nightmare. My GP was useless, didn't know what it was so sent me away saying it was all down to stress of giving up smoking. 19 weeks into my smoke quit, in sheer desperation, I concluded that if I could put my body chemistry back to how it was it might make it all go away...it has....16 weeks after starting smoking again (10 per day as before) the rosacea & everything else has nearly gone & I anticipate the return of my completely flawless skin by year end lastest. Given the misery & high maintenance lifestyle caused by the rosacea I've decided to take my chances as a smoker & voted for quality of life! Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
